Equipment on our CR 400DS sailing yacht -- Espar/Eberspacher AirTronic D4 cabin heater Ahh, nothing like sitting inside the nice, cozy and warm cabin of Mad Dog Voyager, our CR Yachts 400DS sailboat, while the storm roars outside. Little while ago our Ardic diesel forced air heater packed it in. This Ardic unit was okay, but poor installation planning and a "non-continuous use" design of the Ardic rendered it a short life. We have replaced the Ardic with the much superior Espar/Eberspacher AirTronic D4. Espar, known as Eberspacher in Europe, has been building auxiliary gasoline and diesel heaters for years (used in trucks, cars, RV, campers, boats and more). The AirTronic D4 appears to be a well constructed unit that was relatively easy to install and get the heat pumping out! The Electronic Controller includes a Diagnostic Module to allow us to diagnose any problems and reset any error codes that may appear in the system. Product review: Excellent product Pros: Does an excellent job of heating Mad Dog Voyager and keeping the crew happy. The online documentation provides reasonable enough information that most anyone can install their own unit. Cons: While Espar Canada provides Telephone Technical Support, on more than one occasion when we called for technical advice and assistance both prior to and after actually purchasing the unit, the Tech Support staff was more interested in having us contact a local "Marine Dealer" to do the installation. The Technician commented that they "...are not really set up to support the Marine installation side of things as it's different than domestic (meaning vehicle) installations...". Espar/Eberspacher; you need to do better than this! A customer is a customer who can easily go somewhere else including your potential customers!
