The Mad Dogs Pirate Software page
Simply stated "Please do not pirate software!"
Along with our many other ventures and activities, The Mad Dogs have
undertaken designing, writing and developing of several software
applications. From the experiences we have gained over the thousands of
hours that are put into developing and writing software, crouched over
the keyboard, we understand the enormity of software development.
From early beginnings of ideas and notes, the actual architecture and
process of software development is a long process. Although a software
application is never actually "finished", the hours spent on writing the
initial code, troubleshooting, hunting down bugs, developing graphics,
producing help and User's Guides easily spirals out of control.
Many times, when the Mad Dogs hear comments about other people copying,
cracking or stealing software, the most often repeated comment is
"...but if a CD only costs a few bucks, why should I pay $50.00 for it?"
This train of thought is fraught with inaccuracies. The actual
duplicating of the CD may only be a few dollars, however who pays for
the hours spent developing the software and continually fixing bugs.
Also, why should this author or developer continue developing and
improving the software that you thought was good enough to steal, crack
and copy but not buy?
The multi-billion dollar companies in the software business
We must state though, we are the first to agree that there are
multi-billion dollar companies in the software business (and you know
who these companies are) that continually produce garbage. Every release
from these companies is loaded with bugs, quirks, and obvious mistakes
that are never addressed. The only time major fixes are introduced is
when you are coaxed into buying or upgrading to a newer version
"...because it is so much better than the last version". In our opinion,
that is a load of garbage!
When looking for software and software solutions we try to, and
recommend that you also, look to products produced by small companies or
even individuals. Many of these individual programmers and small
companies produce truly useful and innovative software and many times
even provide a trial period for you to test out their goods before
committing to buying it.
The Mad Dogs are continually on the lookout for good quality, usable
software. A collection of software programs we find useful and of
good quality can be found here. And remember, if
you like what these people and companies have to offer, support them and
buy your own license.
Go out and support the people that make life of computing on the water
so much more enjoyable!
