The vicious Sea Cucumber /
You hooked it... you put it back!
It was a struggle and a fight but eventually we were able to
reel in a vicious Sea Cucumber. Apparently, while we were
trolling, we hit a shallow area and this fellow must have
been lounging about not paying attention. Cucumbers were
never high on our list of vegetables, but Sea Cucumbers....
Don't worry though - he never made it onto the menu - Yechhh! |

Crab fishing with a fishing rod is very, very tricky,
but it can be done....
Mad Dog Voyager offers fishing experiences like no other.
While anchored out in Neka Bay, Alaska, near Hoonah, we
dropped the hook in to see what treats would grace our
dinner plates that night. There was very little action in
the waters, except for a few small "training" flounders,
some juvenile rockfish and a good assortment of weeds. A
quick tug on the line and Dean thought he had upset another
weed farm. It felt heavy, didn't thrash or pull too much,
but once it hit the surface... a CRAB! Apparently this
Dungeness Crab decided to walk across the hook/lure just as
a small tug was given on the fishing rod. The hook set in
the crab's leg and up, up, up. After taking this photo, we
unhooked him and dropped him back overboard. Now that's a
story to tell his grandkids! |
