Chinook Salmon we caught / Size: 40 inch or 122cm
About this image: I think I've got a bite...
Now this is what fishing is all about! This is fisherman Dean showing off his catch of the day. This Chinook Salmon was caught near Kumealon Inlet. It measured 40" long and once the steaks and filets were cleaned we had over 15 lbs / 7 kgs of delicious salmon.

Sashimi from fresh Salmon
About this image: What's for lunch?
No more canned salmon for this crew. Within a couple of hours of landing the Chinook Salmon, most had gone into the freezer but a good portion went straight onto the menu. The afternoon of June 1, was welcomed with a fresh plate of Salmon Sashimi complete with Tamari Soy Sauce and wasabi (Japanese horseradish).
About this image: You hooked it... you put it back!
It was a struggle and a fight but eventually we were able to reel in a vicious Sea Cucumber. Apparently, while we were trolling, we hit a shallow area and this fellow must have been lounging about not paying attention. Cucumbers were never high on our list of vegetables, but Sea Cucumbers.... Don't worry though - he never made it onto the menu - Yechhh!

BC_Ferries_Northern_Adventure_Canada
About this image: BC Ferries, Northern Adventure
This (almost) brand new ferry, the BC Ferries Northern Adventure, offered regular service between Port Hardy and Prince Rupert. It was recently placed into service to replace the BC Ferry vessel that was tragically lost operating the same route (obviously this one is not taking the EXACT same route, but you get the idea), It seems as though it is a fast trip as we passed by each other several times over the next few days.
Bald Eagle eating his salmon
About this image: Now this is how you catch Salmon
Nature has it's ways and never wants to be shown up by a couple of sailing fisherman. We watched in awe as this Bald Eagle swooped down and captured this Salmon in front of our eyes. The fish was a little to big for the Eagle to fly away with it so, as we watched in utter amazement, he basically "swam" to shore with his prize.

About this image: Mmmmm, fresh Salmon Sushi!
The Bald Eagle took the concept of fresh sushi one step further with his Salmon. While we had cleaned, and filleted our Salmon, the Eagle dove in ("Up to his eyeballs" as the expression goes) and enjoyed sushi his way. How uncivilized, not even any Tamari Soy sauce and Wasabi.....Anyhow, not much left when Mr. Eagle was finished with his catch. The seagulls also had dinner that day (leftovers)
