Mad Dog Voyager is outfitted with a Flex-O-Fold three-blade folding propeller

The piltohouse sailboat Mad Dog Voyager is outfitted with a Flex-O-Fold 3 bladed folding propeller. CR Yachts decided that for the 400DS, the Flex-O-Fold was the choice to go with because, under power, it is the most efficient folding propeller available. Most people are familiar with the more common rival, the MaxProp.

The side profile and cross-section of the Flex-O-Fold propeller, it exhibits a powerful shape that drives more horsepower into the thrust than any other folding propeller available. However, when folded, the propeller forms a tight triangular cross-section which creates very minimal drag, which is most desirable when sailing. The Flex-O-Fold is built with patented twin helical gears for improved gear engagement.

The design of the Flex-O-Fold delivers unparalleled thrust in both forward and reverse. On Mad Dod Voyager, the Flex-O-Fold is attached to the Yanmar diesel and Marine Gear by means of a Centaflex flexible coupling. This combination delivers a very smooth, vibration free yet powerful and responsive drive train.

The blades are Cast Nickel/Aluminum/Bronze (NIBRAL), high strength, corrosion resistant and 82% copper for anti-fouling. Built with twin helical gears (patented) for improved gear engagement.
