Our iPod is very reliable music player and the 160 GB does a great job for us boaters. Our iPod has a 160GB storage capacity and it works fine and we use it every day. With the large hard drive capacity you can leave all your music CDs in storage on land and still have all your music with you on the boat. A long battery life and the ability to charge while connected to the USB port of the computer or some car radios means you never have to worry about drained batteries.

The iPod Classic (iPod 160GB Classic) also plays videos

iPod Classic details
Display: Full color.
2.5-inch (diagonal) color LCD with LED backlight
320-by-240-pixel resolution at 163 pixels per inch
Power: Built-in battery can be charged via your computer USB port, or external 110volt adapter
Listening options: The iPod can be connected via headphone jack or a wireless transmitter (Not provided by Apple) to any radio (at home, boat or car) to play your iTunes

Included: Software for organizing your music and making various playlists (Sorry, but it is not vey good).

Software that comes with your Apple iPod:
The iTunes software organizes your music and playlists and synchronizes with your Apple iPod every time you connect the iPod to your desktop computer or laptop. Also, any songs you purchase from the Apple store are automatically synchronized to your iPod. You are able to upgrade your software for free on-line but rarely are the updates to improve the use of the software but are more likely to make it easier for vendors to sell you more product! We make a habit of not upgrading unless there is a direct benefit to us on using the iPod or it involves a fix for the Window operating system. So don't upgrade for the sake of upgrading your software because it's free.

You can always download the latest free version of iTunes from the Apple.com website.

What you can do with the iTunes software:

Create playlists
Example: We have 35 different playlists (one for every day of the week for 5 weeks) This way we can play a different playlist every day for 5 weeks without hearing the same song. We created some playlist for the evening (easy listing type of music) or special playlist with favorites etc.

What you can NOT do with the iTunes software:
Always make sure to keep a extra copy of your music on another drive in case your computer hard drive crashes (Hard drive failure will happen sooner or later!) because the Apple/iPod software does not have a solution to restore your music from your iPod back to your computer! We use
the easy to use SyncBackPro, backup software from 2BrightSparks on a regular basis to make back-ups of our music library to a external drive!. We backup the music folder and the iTunes file folder so you have the (almost) latest database created by iTunes for when you have to re-install iTunes on your new hard drive.

Product review: Does the job for us. It is used every day

Pros:
Large hard drive (Our iPod Classic has a 160 GB hard drive) to hold many songs, audio books & videos

Cons:
The iPod itself is very reliable but the software is not very good (in our opinion!)
VERY IMPORTANT: Always make sure to backup your music to another drive in case your computer crashes (Hard drive failure will happen sooner or later!) because the Apple/iPod software has no solution to restore your music from your iPod back to your computer!

Rating: ●●●● (5 out of 5 is the best rating possible)
