Manson plough anchor
Product description: Manson Plough Anchor

The Mad Dogs are kept safe and secure by our Manson Supreme and Manson Plough anchors

About Plough/CQR anchors:
So named due to its resemblance to a traditional agricultural plough (or more specifically two ploughshares), many manufacturers produce a plough-style design, all based on or direct copies of the original Coastal Quick Release (CQR), a 1933 design by mathematician Geoffrey Ingram Taylor.

However, there is always room for improvement to make things better and we believe Geoffrey Ingram Taylor would have agreed with us. Manson has designed and produced the Manson Plough anchor that is up to the task. Although we did not use our Plough/CQR anchor for very long (we upgraded to the larger and higher rated Manson Supreme anchor within months of purchasing the Plough), it performed excellently while we used it as oiur primary anchor. The heavy weighted tip, leveraged by the oversized and longer than typical shank, was able to readily cut through weedy bottoms and hold us securely on sandy bottoms. The Manson Plough is now mounted and ready for use on Mad Dog Voyager as a secondary, stern or emergency anchor.

Unlike some of the newer Plough "copy-cat" designs, the Manson Plough's oversized & overstrength shank is hinged. The hinged system is designed to allow the Manson Plough to pivot the anchor if the vessel changes the direction of pull, rather than pulling out or flipping upside down and losing valuable time before resetting itself. Additionally, the cast-in-place eyelet was an ideal attachment point for our floating anchor ball. The floating anchor ball has proved itself useful in busy anchorages where we are able to keep and eye on our anchor and ensure other boaters have not accidentally set their ground tackle over top of our chain.

Manson may not have been the original designer of the Plough-style anchor, but they have taken on the challenge of refining and re-introducing the Plough anchor and have done an excellent job. Large flared flukes, a robust hinged design and an oversized &over-length shank are all combined in a neat, reliable package called the Manson Plough. The Mad Dogs sleep well at night knowing that Manson is doing it's job and keeping us secure.

Product review:
The Manson Plough anchor is now our secondary or spare anchor; the Manson Supreme anchor is our main anchor. The Manson Plough anchor is a recommended product by The Mad Dogs!

Pros:
Oversized shank, heavy-weighted tip, excellent weed cutting ability.
Cons:
May not fit well on smaller bow rollers, but only a minor inconvenience.
Rating:
●●●●● (5 out of 5 is the best rating possible)
